Hawaii Social Media Year in Review

The Social Media Club of Hawaii is looking to highlight Hawaii’s social media accomplishments for 2010 at its next meeting, taking place Dec. 15 at Ka Restaurant. The club is now accepting submissions as well as prize donations.

What constitutes a social media accomplishment? Among the examples offered are joining Twitter, hiring a blogger, posting a video to YouTube, or offering coupons via social networks.

Club founder Roxanne Darling has invited several local companies that are active in social media to participate, including Ala Moana Center and Big City Diner. She’s already acknowledged submissions from the Hawaii Food Bank, Honolulu Civil Beat, and the Sheraton Princess Kaiulani.

The submitted accomplishments will be highlighted in a presentation shown at the gathering, as well as presented to the local media “to help define Hawaii in the Social Media Community worldwide.”

Entries will not be judged or ranked, but there will be a contest element.

The person who brings in the largest number of event prizes, as well as the person who brings the largest total prize value, will win a “grand prize” — to be determined. Prizes have already been secured from Best Buy, Elements Spa & Salon, and Teddy’s Bigger Burgers

The Twitter hashtag for the “Hawaii Social Media Year in Review” is #HSMYIR.
